If you have experience and are interested in joining our community please read up and contact us!

Thank You for Your Interest in a Studio Membership! If you are not a current student and have less than 3 years experience, we ask that you start by taking classes. This allows us to get to know you and assess your ability to succeed.

Our Community Studio is for those who have a working knowledge of the clay process.

You don't need to be an expert, though, you have to work well with others, keep the studio spotless, and respect the equipment.
Since our Community Studio DOES NOT have an employee on staff and is run on the honor system, we need to ensure that all new members are self-sufficient & responsible.

The Monthly Rental Fee is $200 every month and is to be paid on the first of each month. This fee is paid by clicking the Monthly Studio Membership Fee photo at the bottom of this page.

  • Renter's receive a 30% discount on all of our classes, while they are actively renting.

  • Rental includes shelf, extruder, shared wheels, slab roller, plaster and table space. The Renters Studio has a 10 cu ft. & a 3.2 cu ft. kiln. You will be completely responsible for safety, security, and cleanliness. Should you be interested in being a helpful hand in the firing process, we will, gladly, set up a training session and shadow time before putting you on the kiln roster.

  • Leave No Trace:You will be completely responsible for safety, security, and cleanliness while working in the studio. Since it is a shared space, cleaning up after yourself is imperative! Not only to foster great relations with the other renters, but, to maintain the health and wellness of all of our members.

Materials and Firing are NOT included. The Member's Studio is similar to creating your own studio at home, only we've sourced the, more costly, equipment for the Renter's to use. Just as if you created a workspace at home, you're responsible for your tools, materials, and glazes. While we encourage experimentation, using caustic chemicals, of any kind, are NOT permitted and we ask that you keep the experimenting to glaze layering and the manipulation of the clay body you are working with.

  • CLAY: You may purchase clay individually at Portland Pottery. We fire to Cone 5. We use BMIX 5 and Laguna #60 stoneware.

  • FIRING: The fee for firing is $20 per cubic foot, or an area of 17" in diameter by 6" high.

  • GLAZES: Many of our renters prefer pre-mixed, paint-on glaze( i.e. Amaco, Laguna, Mayco, Spectrum, Aardvark, etc…).

      • Generally Amaco or other Cone 5 commercial glazes are fine, however,

      • Anyone bringing in new glazes MUST make test tiles and fire to see what combinations may cause drippage. All test tiles are to be placed on a cookie when fired.
